5. Gently remove it by soaking it well with water or saline.
What is the KytoStat Bandage made from?
The KytoStat Bandage has a unique pad that is fabricated from chitosan, a naturally occurring material derived from shrimp shells. Once in bandage form, it is joined with a latex free adhesive backing and is then sterilized.
Is there a problem using HemCon products on people with shrimp or shellfish allergies?
There have been no known allergic reactions as a result of using the HemCon Bandage since distribution began in 2003 and there have been no adverse effects reported in over 1,000,000 bandages shipped.
HemCon Medical Technologies, Inc. has results from a shellfish allergy study conducted by its chitosan supplier which demonstrates that, out of 221 individuals with suspected hypersensitivity, including 8 individuals with known shellfish allergies, none demonstrated any dermal sensitivity when pricked with a chitosan test solution. However, since chitosan is extracted from the shells of shrimp and other shellfish, individuals with known shellfish allergies should exercise caution in the use of products containing chitosan.
What’s the science behind the KytoStat Bandage?
The KytoStat Bandage’s unique white, chitosan pad has positive charges, and attracts red blood cells, which have negative charges. The red blood cells create a seal over the wound as they are drawn into the bandage, forming a very tight, adherent seal. By quickly sealing the wound, the bandage reduces blood loss, and stops bleeding fast. It generates no heat and because it is a bandage and not a powder, it has no granules to get into eyes or mouth.
Is the bandage for internal use?
The KytoStat Bandage is for external use only.
Is the KytoStat Bandage kosher?
The KytoStat Bandage is made from shellfish, a creature that is considered forbidden from consumption by some religious groups. Although the bandage is not technically consumed, it is not considered kosher.
How long does it take for the bandage to control the bleeding?
The KytoStat Bandage is able to control bleeding when there is correct positioning of the white pad on the source of bleeding and when direct pressure is applied for 2-5 minutes.
If the KytoStat Bandage is used, does it affect how the wound heals?
While the KytoStat Bandage provides fast control over bleeding by sealing the wound, its function is independent of the clotting cascade. Its sealing action allows the body’s natural clotting to occur.
How long can the KytoStat Bandage be left in place?
The bandage can be left in place for up to 48 hours.
How is the KytoStat Bandage removed?
The KytoStat Bandage can be easily removed with saline or water.
Note:
Product is sterile unless foil packet is opened or damaged. Do not use if contents are wet. Contains chitosan from shellfish. For external use only. Single use only. Best if stored at room temperature.
